I created this album to celebrate the birth of my daughter Matilda.
In the six instrumental tracks you'll hear my love for sarod, palm wine guitar, percussion, beats, bass, synths, ambient music, soundscapes, and musical textures fused better than ever before.
My constant musical friends: guitar, sarod, mandolin bass, electric piano, electronic drums, synths, tabla, dhol, dholak, darbouka and other percussion are well represented on this album.
One old musical friend making a reappearance is trombone! Yes I used to play it at Washington Middle School, and in the Garfield High School Marching band, and the last time I recorded it was on the track "Catch You Later (Ambiant Palmwine)" from my 2001 ambient album "Sum." Well now trombone is back again as part of my musical palette, and I think it is hear to stay. You can hear my trombone playing on "Matilda Party," and "Dreams of Victorialand."
Three brand new musical pals that are on this album are trumpet, and a Kokako flute by Takahe Flutes, and Shaw Whistle. You can hear me playing trumpet on "Dreams of Victorialand." You can hear the Kokako flute on "Sunshine Girl," "Dreams of Victorialand," and "First Heartbeat." You can hear the Shaw Whistle on "Matilda Party."
Finishing this album was difficult! Since the birth of my son Charlie in 2018, I've been a full time dad. Thus this album was made during Charlie's naps and when he was asleep. It was so much easier to make the album "Charlie Beats" that I made for Charlie's birth in 2018! The price of completing the album was me suffering from quite a bit of sleep deprivation dizziness.
But I think it was worth it. I believe I've leveled up my musical game in terms of performance and production on these six tracks. May you enjoy the music.
